ABOUT THE $1.5K SYSTEM
This $1.5K system is comprised of Andrew Jones' small jewel ... the ELAC Debut 2.0 B6.2 loudspeaker, his Debut 2.0 3010 10" Subwoofer, and ELAC's Element EA101EQ-G Class D BASH Integrated Amplifier. The Source here is assumed to be a battery-powered [Good thing!] laptop computer with SSD Storage, latest generation chips, and an Audiophile Music Player App, such as Audirvana, JRiver, Pure Music, etc.
The amplifier will deliver 60W RMS into the B6.2's nominal 6ohm input impedance, but will provide 120W peak (CEA 2010) into 4 ohm when the B6.2's curve dips as it enters the low frequency spectrum. The B6.2 with a minimum value of 6 ohms at 190Hz and an electrical phase angle that is high only when the impedance magnitude is also high, will be a very easy load for the partnering amplifier to drive. All considered, but particularly the $299 Price Tag, this little prodigy's broadband frequency response of 44Hz to 35kHz is quite astounding.
The EA101EQ-G includes a 192kHz 24-bit asynchronous AKM DAC, DSP in the form of ABC (Auto Blend & Calibrate) Room Correction, Bluetooth Audio via aptX, Dolby Digital Audio Decoding, and Remote EQ via IOS or Android Apps. In addition to a Subwoofer Output, there is a Headphone output delivering 100mW @ 16 ohms.
With $1.5K to work with, we happily managed to sneak in ELAC's impressive 3010 Subwoofer to augment the B6.2's already impressive bass performance. This active sub is powered by a 200W RMS BASH-Tracking amplifier, and comes with sophisticated app-controlled EQ and DSP software that assures seamless system integration. Frequency response is 28 to 150 Hz.
The system is suitable for room sizes up of 15ft x 20ft.
This small HIGH END system is quite a "stunner". Like all Andrew Jones speakers, the Debut B6.2 plays all Music Genres with surprising conviction, coherence and ease ... and once the 3010 sub is activated, the Pleasure-Factor increases exponentially ... adding Scale and Authority !
UPGRADE ALTERNATIVES - $2K System
For an additional ~$500 we simply "Up-the-Andrew-Jones-Ante" on the speaker side of the system equation. The Debut 2.0 B6.2 is replaced by the ELAC UNI FI UB5, and the 10" 3010 Sub by the 12" 3030 model...for an increase is overall Clarity and Scale.
Have a Turntable ? Add Mobile Fidelity's new $249 MOFI Studiodeck MM/MC Phono Stage - another Star Performer.
