ABOUT THE $2K SYSTEM
This $2K system is comprised of Wharfedale's award winning EVO bookshelf speaker ... the Wharfedale EVO 4.1 BS loudspeaker, and another "great value" ... the Elac 3010 10" Subwoofer. Power, pre-amplification, digital processing and streaming functions are handled by ELAC's DS-A101-G Class D BASH Integrated Amplifier. The Source here is assumed to be a battery-powered [Good thing!] laptop computer with a Streaming Platform subscription such as Tidal or Qobuz.. and SSD Storage, latest generation chips, and an Audiophile Music Player App, such as Audirvana, JRiver, Pure Music, etc. to play resident high resolution music files
The amplifier will deliver 45W RMS into the EVO 4.1's nominal 8ohm input impedance. and will supply 85W at the EVO 4.1's minimum impedance point of 3.5 ohm. The EVO's unique SLPP bass reflex system, as developed for the Flagship ELYSIAN, is now incorporated in EVO4.1, as is the AMT tweeter that brings a radically different way of reproducing high frequency detail efficiently and accurately.
The Elac DS-A101-G includes a very competent and musically satisfying 192kHz 24-bit asynchronous AKM DAC, DSP in the form of ABC (Auto Blend & Calibrate) Room Correction, Bluetooth Audio via aptX, Dolby Digital Audio Decoding, and Remote EQ via IOS or Android Apps. In addition to a Subwoofer Output, there is a Headphone output delivering 100mW @ 16 ohms.
With $2K to work with, we happily managed to sneak in ELAC's impressive 3010 Subwoofer to augment the EVO 4.1's bass performance. This active sub is powered by a 200W RMS BASH-Tracking amplifier, and comes with sophisticated app-controlled EQ and DSP software that assures seamless system integration. Frequency response is 28 to 150 Hz.
The system is suitable for room sizes up of 15ft x 20ft, and is also ideal for studios and offices environments.
This small HIGH END system is quite a "stunner". The Wharfedale EVO 4.1 plays all Music Genres with surprising conviction, coherence and ease ... and once the 3010 sub is activated, the Pleasure-Factor increases exponentially ... adding Scale and Authority !
UPGRADE ALTERNATIVES - $2.5K System
For an additional ~$500 we simply "Up-the-EVO-Ante" on the speaker side of the system equation. The Wharfedale EVO 4.1 is replaced by the Wharfedale EVO 4.2 bookshelf, and the ELAC 10" 3010 Sub by the ELAC 12" 3030 model...for an increase is overall Clarity and Scale.
