THE $5K ANALOG SYSTEM
QUAD's new ARTERA SOLUS PLAY + priced at $2,495 offers integrated CD Playback ... and as of 2020 it offers Wifi Streaming capability !
The QUAD Artera Solus Play is an A/AB design and delivers about 84W to the
WHARFEDALE EVO 4.4 Loudspeaker's nominal impedance which is rated at 8 ohms. The DAC is the 32bit Sabre ESS ES9018 with capability up to PCM 384kHz and DSD256. In Preamp mode it offers RCA inputs, and XLR and RCA outputs.
The WHARFEDALE EVO 4.4 speaker is a 3-way bass reflex design specified at 8ohm impedance with a power handling capability of 20W Nominal and up to 200W. In no small measure due to its AMT tweeter it offers exceptionally smooth Bandwidth performance, and its claimed FS is 44Hz to 22kHz. This speaker "speaks many genres" - from Jazz to Classical to Rock. No real weaknesses here, except for a limitation in room size compatibility of up to 16ft x 25ft. Its sound character has a sophistication and authority in the bass that you don’t find with many alternatives at the price. Bass lines are deep and taut and phase coherence is really good for a three-way design. Voices are a distinct strength of this loudspeaker and one can always hear lyrics clearly - suggesting that the midrange is very clean and coherent. Gutsy, engaging, highly entertaining, and powerfully weighty are other attributes that come to mind.
It’s only natural for Mobile Fidelity [MoFi] to use the word “Studio” in the name of its components. But a new TT has joined the family as their new entry-level offering, the Mofi Foundation produces a very high-end sound at a value price. Designed in collaboration with some of the world's finest audio designers, the Foundation is a minimalist version of their StudioDeck and features an incredible amount of ingenuity and technology usually reserved for much more expensive products.
The Mofi StudioPhono replicates the wide bandwidth transparency Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab mastering engineers demand. Tim De Paravicini, the designer responsible for the Mobile Fidelity Gain2™ Ultra Analog cutting system, assisted with this phono preamplifier's internal circuitry. The result is a phono stage that faithfully and effortlessly reproduces the music buried in the grooves of your LPs !
With selectable gain and loading, you will be able to tailor StudioPhono to match nearly any moving-magnet or moving-coil cartridge on the market. Two selectable toggle buttons on the top of the unit can engage Mono (!!) or Subsonic filter mode.
