 ORTOFON 2M LVB 250

The 2M Black LVB 250 builds on the concept of the original 2M Black cartridge design to take one step further toward  high-end sound.

The 2M Black LVB 250 uses a Nude Shibata diamond on a Boron cantilever. This combination is also found on the  MC Cadenza Black cartridge. The Nude Shibata stylus’s slim, highly polished profile allows for an exceedingly wide contact area with the record groove walls and ensures detailed reproduction throughout the spectrum, including even the highest frequencies. The use of an extremely stiff and lightweight Boron cantilever adds transparency, speed, and responsiveness to the sound.

To attain an optimal interaction between compliance and damping, a new rubber compound for the suspension system has been developed. The new rubber compound formula is based on the Multi Wall Carbon Nano Tubes (MWCNT) nano filler. The new MWCNT-based compound offers desirable mechanical properties, which ensure better damping and improve the overall performance of the cartridge.

Also, the new MWCNT rubber compound allows for more environmental-friendly production, adding further benefit. The MWCNT powder is applied in a rubber polymer matrix and not in a powdered form, which makes the production process more clean, non-polluting and energy-saving.

With an optimal weight of 7.2 g and compliance suited to most modern tonearms, the 2M Black LVB 250 is easily compatible with an endless array of modern High-End equipment.

In all other elements of its general design, the 2M Black LVB 250 draws from the 2M range’s principles. Its structure, materials and generator system are all drawn from the standard 2M Black for proven performance. For that reason, the 2M Black LVB 250 stylus can also fit on and bring a notable upgrade to existing 2M Bronze and 2M Black customers.

ORTOFON MONO CARTRIDGE SELECTION

The MC Cadenza Mono

The Cadenza Mono moving coil cartridge sports a Nude Fine Line stylus and a cylindrical aluminium cantilever. The stylus radius is r/R 8/40 µm.

The coils are made from 6NX (99.9999 %) pure silver wire. An improved winding process on the armature allows a better channel balance.
For easy use the pins are connected so you get the same signal from both pairs of connecting pins.

Sharing internal build with the Cadenza Red, and with optimized adjustments for mono playback, the sound is relaxed and homogeneous.

...If you have many monophonic records...then a dedicated mono cartridge is most definitely the best way to play them...The results are tightly timed, awash with musical detail and colour...undisturbed by sonic nasties...An insightful, detailed and musical cartridge..."

The MC Quintet Mono

A True Mono from Ortofon

This Ortofon moving coil cartridge features a Nude Elliptical r/R 8/18µm stylus that is a good solution for playing mono microgroove vinyl records. The Quintet Mono will track perfectly through even worn and damaged records and ensure the surface noise control.

The MC Quintet Mono uses a strapped output to deliver the same output signal from both sets of pole pins. This effectively eliminates the need for mono-specific equipment, making it possible to enjoy true mono reproduction on any stereo playback system.

MC Quintet Mono is for playing mono microgroove vinyl records.

The 2M Mono SE

The cartridge body is manufactured from Lexan DMX Piano White, a revolutionary material which ensures high rigidity while eliminating unwanted resonances.

The design, implements a special upgraded engine which provides a high level of sonic accuracy.

Split pole pins with a silver plated copper wire enhance the details in the reproduction of the sound. The split pole pins enable moving magnet cartridges to have a flat frequency response as with a moving coil cartridge.

The 2M Mono SE's stylus is a r/R 6/50µm Nude Shibata, which with its highly polished profile allows an exceedingly wide contact area to the groove walls and, notably, ensures detailed reproduction throughout the spectrum, including even the most high frequency groove information.

The strapped output delivers the same output signal from both sets of pole pins. This effectively eliminates the need for mono-specific equipment, making it possible to enjoy true mono reproduction on any stereo playback system.

The cartridge body has been streamlined to provide easy mounting and alignment.

The 2M Mono SE provides excellent compatibility in an assortment of playback systems and with a wide variety of phono preamps.

Verdict

Outstanding - amongst the best

The best mono moving magnet cartridge you can buy for microgrooves. A fabulous transducer.

"... Whatever way you look at the 2M Mono SE it is a fantastic cartridge...

... Ortofon's stereo 2M Black has a deserved reputation as one of the best moving magnet cartridges available; the 2M Mono builds on it...

... It has a tad less high-frequency sheen I fancy, but it similarly enjoys a fabulous stylus that reads even difficult inner grooves perfectly...

... It is easy to fit, easy to use and compatible with all arms too; there are no foibles. I was entranced when spinning The Beatles in Mono LPs: it plays them near perfectly..."
