QUAD AUDIO

PRODUCT OF THE UNITED KINGDOM

QUAD VA-ONE Integrated Amplifier

VA-ONE

"PROUDLY CLASSICAL"

... classically modern

QUAD VA-ONE   Integrated Tube Amplifier

Build quality is impeccable both inside and out, as one expects of Quad. Internal components have been painstakingly selected to ensure the VA-One maintains the company’s traditional dictum of “the closest approach to the original sound”, while external styling is classically Quad, finished in traditional ‘Lancaster Grey’. The amp’s front panel sports a smooth-acting volume control incorporating a motorised potentiometer, allowing precise adjustment via the supplied remote control, together with a high-quality headphone output and controls for input selection and Bluetooth pairing.

The VA-One boasts an impressive complement of valves for such a compact device (seven in all). The preamp section incorporates an ECC83 high-impedance triode, feeding an ECC82 twin triode driver and phase splitter stage. The output stage uses
two EL84 pentodes per channel in push-pull configuration, delivering 2x15W – sufficient power to drive efficient modern speakers to high volume levels, whilst maintaining the sumptuous sound quality derived from the amp’s valve-based topology.

Three digital audio inputs – optical, coaxial and asynchronous USB – support data up to 24-bit/192kHz, and an RCA-phono input gives the option to connect an analogue source like a CD player or a turntable (when used with a suitable phono stage). In addition, those who enjoy the freedom of wireless connectivity can pair smartphones, tablets and computers via Bluetooth, with support for the sonically superior aptX codec.

"THE NEW ORIGINAL"

kay-tee-magix sixty-six !

QUAD QII   Integrated Tube Amplifier

The Quad QII-Integrated, evolves the QII into a user-friendly fully integrated stereo amplifier for the very first time. The preamp section delivers three line inputs, plus full tape monitoring. Every detail is engineered to the highest standard; even the built-in phono stage is of higher quality than many costly standalone devices, ensuring that every musical source, from vinyl to digital, is delivered with exceptional panache.

It stays true to the original Quad II monoblocks in its push-pull KT66 output configuration and single-tap output transformers, yet it’s actually twice as powerful – rated at 25W per channel.

Designed by Quad founder Peter Walker, the truly iconic Quad II helped to define the modern concept of high-fidelity sound in the 1950s. Quad has kept the legend alive with the current Quad II classic, a faithful reproduction of the original valve monoblock with build quality and aesthetics lovingly updated for the modern era.

Today's Quad II Series circuit design is the work of
Tim de Paravicini, a man widely acknowledged to be the UK's foremost valve amp designer. His design is faithful to Peter Walker's Philosophy of cathode loading onto the same output stage and fundamental simplicity of design, ensuring the new amp delivers the same wealth of detail and exquisite tone as its famous predecessor.

Deviating from the stand-alone power amplifiers and to cater for more compact setups is The Quad II Classic Integrated, which combines 4 x KT66, 4 x ECC88 and 2 x ECC8 valves with 3 line inputs, a phono input (both MM and MC) and even a tape / monitor function.

QUAD QII - FORTY   Tube Mono Power Amplifier

The Quad II-forty power amplifier is much more than a tribute to one of the most famous designs in audio - but refined and powerful in the modern sense of the terms. Although the circuit topology has changed a little from the original, significantly better components and a brand new transformer design have been engineered.

While still being delicately balanced a fast, crisp and detailed sound is achieved, whilst producing an output current suitable for modern loudspeakers, including our very own ESL. A 5U4G valve rectifies two KT-88 output valves that work in push-pull configuration to deliver 40W into 8 ohms , while a choice of 4 Ohm or 8 Ohm taps allow for a wide choice of loudspeaker configurations.

QUAD Artera PRE Black - front view

ARTERA PRE

"MINIMALIST PURITY"

... featuring short, direct signal paths that preserve sonic purity

QUAD Artera PRE Black - front view

ARTERA PRE   Analogue Preamplifier

The QUAD Artera Pre is a pure analogue preamplifier, combining innovative modern British design with the QUAD sound signature traditions, characterized by the pure analogue signal. The Artera Pre mixes minimalist design with high-quality components to ensure short, direct signal paths that preserve sonic purity.

At Quad we are music lovers too and ‘The Closest approach to the original sound’ has been a Quad philosophy since 1936. More than just a slogan, it underlies the company’s commitment to producing the finest audio equipment, capable of reproducing all the elements and emotion of a live performance. This ethos has been considered when building our new integrated amplifier from the ground-up.

The Artera Pre reintroduces an old Quad feature – the Tilt control. Its answer to tone adjustment. The Tilt control adjusts both ends of the frequency spectrum together – either attenuating the bass and lifting the treble or lifting the bass and attenuating the treble, in steps of 1dB. In effect, it rotates – or tilts – the audible frequency range on a 700Hz axis to make it ‘warmer’ or ‘cooler’ without affecting the apparent volume or ‘colouring’ the sound. That’s the theory

It hasn’t featured on a new Quad product for a decade – the Artera Pre does feature it, however, but adds further analogue bass filters to the Tilt function for additional sound tailoring.

For example, optional bass lift (of +4.5dB around 60Hz) may be used to give smaller speakers a little more extension, while bass cut (-4.5dB shelf response) can help to deal with unwanted room resonances.

The Tilt and bass filters can be combined to create individual EQ profiles to assign to each source input. In this way, each input can be configured to suit the connected component, be it a turntable, a CD player, a tuner, a DAC or streamer or any other playback device with an analogue output.

The power supply incorporates 11 regulated supply rails including multiple ultra-low-noise regulators.

QUAD ARTERA STEREO POWER AMPLIFIER

ARTERA STEREO

"CURRENT DUMPING REVIVAL"

unfaltering power ...even under high dynamic and transient conditions

QUAD ARTERA STEREO POWER AMPLIFIER - Rear View

ARTERA STEREO    Solid State Power Amplifier

From the transformer to the input terminals, each section of the Artera has been engineered from the ground up to ensure power, musicality and stability. The Artera Stereo produces 140 Watts RMS per channel – ample power for driving first-class loudspeakers, unfaltering even under high dynamic and transient conditions thanks to the patented Current Dumping technology. Special attention has also been paid to the newly developed balanced XLR inputs. The robust connections are yet another string to the Artera Stereo's bow, with an incomparable signal to noise ratio.

Iconic Amplifier Technology

The inclusion of full analogue/digital preamp functionality means that the Artera Play can be connected directly to a power amplifier, and its perfect partner in this regard is the Artera Stereo. This compact yet potent power amp sports the latest iteration of Quad’s famous Current Dumping topology, first introduced in the legendary Quad 405 – one of the most lauded British audio components of all time and still the only amp design to have earned a Queen’s Award for Technological Achievement.

Current Dumping is essentially a method of marrying the superior sonic purity of Class A amplification with the greater efficiency of Class AB. An extremely high-quality, low-power Class A amplifier provides the signal quality, while a high-power current dumping section delivers the muscle to keep the speakers under control. These two amp circuits are combined via a precision network to perfectly impose the finesse of the Class A output onto the power of the current dumper. The result is a relatively compact and cool-running power amp capable of delivering a captivating combination of dynamic power, vice-like grip and sumptuous sonic detail.

QUAD ARTERA SOLUS INTEGRATED AMPLIFIER

ARTERA SOLUS

"QUAD-IN-ONE"

crisp, clean aesthetic ...carried forward from past to present

QUAD ARTERA SOLUS INTEGRATED AMPLIFIER - REAR VIEW

ARTERA SOLUS    Solid State Integrated Amplifier

The Artera Solus - a multi-tasking hi-fi system packed into a single sleek and sophisticated box, combining a CD transport, DAC, pre-amplifier, and power amplifier in a single compact chassis, with extensive connectivity options including Bluetooth connectivity.

Classics For The Modern Age
The Artera range combines the qualities that have made Quad one of Britain’s most revered hi-fi marques for many decades with fresh industrial design and the very latest high-performance audio technologies.

Artera’s crisp, clean aesthetic both evokes Quad’s past and looks forward to the future, with a textured aluminum front panel, thick glass top and CNC-routed heat sinks on either side. The housing provides a rugged structure that resists interference from external vibrations, while the facia of each player incorporates an intuitive touch-sensitive control, contributing greatly to its sleek design.

Hi-Res Compatibility
Despite their attractive simplicity, the three Artera components deliver exceptional sophistication beneath the skin. At the heart of the Artera Solus nestles the ESS Sabre32 9018; a 32-bit, eight-channel hybrid multi-bit Delta-Sigma DAC considered by many to be the finest D/A converter chip available for stereo sound.

This is Quad’s first series to utilise the ESS Sabre DAC, and external digital sources can benefit from its exceptional quality via a range of digital inputs. These include USB, with support for PCM data up to 32-bit/384kHz and also DSD64/128/256, ensuring the Artera Play, and Artera Solus are fully equipped to make the most of today’s hi-res music formats, as well as future advances in ultra-high-definition digital sound.

Filters To Suit Every Ear
For CD replay, a new slot-loading mechanism buffers data from the disc before feeding it asynchronously (in order to minimise time domain errors known as ‘jitter’) to the DAC section. Four digital filter options enable users to tailor the Artera Play’s, and Solus's sound, with both CDs and external digital sources, to suit personal taste and the nature of the source material.
Each player within the series features a preamp section which boasts a balanced Class A output stage. Two coaxial and two optical inputs cater for external digital sources alongside the USB input, with a pair of RCA phono inputs handling analogue sources. Analogue outputs are supplied in both single-ended RCA and balanced XLR varieties; a pair of digital outputs (optical and coaxial) and a 12V trigger output complete a comprehensive array of connectivity options.
