Although AMC Digital Line consists of a large number of digital components, we have selected only 3 components of particular interest for use in audiophile systems ... The 24192i-vt vacuum tube output DAC/PRE, the XCDi vacuum tube output CD Player / DAC, and the 24192i solid state Class A output DAC/PRE.

What is very attractive about the 241192i-vt is its functional versatility ! A full function Preamp with 8 digital inputs - AES / EBU (1x), S/PDIF coaxial (2x), Optical (4x) and USB up to 24/192 - as well as a S/PDIF coax digital output, an unbalanced analog output and a XLR balanced output XLR. Ethernet input can be ordered as an option. Remote ? ... yes, and they included their step-less, relay-less VRI source selector circuit .

The Burr Brown PCM 1798 DAC -- a bit of a "yoda" in chip-land -- was retained for its superior bass response and its overall musicality and "augmented" with a "rollable" ECC83 Class A-configured tube output stage. We felt that all of this pretty much met all our requirements for a component retailing at $1,675 !

The AMC XCDi was designed to play :

It Features :

• A premium transport and servo drive system assures constant data retrieval and unsurpassed tracking performance

• Chip : The Burr Brown PCM1798 is designed around a 24-Bit/ 192 KHz Sampling Advanced Segment D/A Converter architecture to achieve excellent dynamic performance (123dB typically) and improved tolerance to clock jitter.

• The DAC offers excellent SNR up to 123dB [typical], excellent THD+N down to 0.0005% [typical]

• An excellent 8x Over-sampling Digital Filter giving Pass-Band Ripple down to + - 0.002dB. The DAC can handle a sampling frequency of 10kHz to 200kHz and accepts 16, 20 and 24-Bit Audio Data ... with Digital De-Emphasis.

• A unique 5-pole linear active LPF (Low Pass Filter) prevents interference from ultrasonic noise commonly found in other CD playback systems.

• The advanced switching mode power supply design incorporates separate windings for the digital, analog and servo circuits to prevent interference and preserve sonic performance.

• EIA calibrated audio outputs ensure proper match with pre-amplifiers and receivers. 

• The XCDi-vt incorporates independent high voltage power supplies for the valve circuits.

• The tubes function in a so-called "class A" amplification.

AMC 24192i   Solid State Class A Output DAC/PRE  -  $ 1,125

The AMC 24192i DAC/PRE shares the same technical platform and functionality with the 24192i-vt ... but replaces the tube output stage with a solid state Class A discrete output circuit. If paired with an integrated tube amp, we felt that the solid state output stage may prove to be a more balanced match ... and at $550 less, it deserved consideration.
